Surround yourself with beauty.

1. Take a lazy day tubing.
2. Watch a play in the park.
3. Buy flowers at the farmer's market.

Lately, I've been lucky enough to have some time to explore the town Ashleigh and I live in. During the school year, I really only spend time on campus, but being in the city during the summer has been turning out to be a lot more pleasant than I expected! I made a checklist a couple weeks ago, which has been forcing me to do new things and see more of the place that I live.

I labeled this post about beauty because that is what I am surrounded by right now as I am writing to you! My boyfriend interns at the Columbus Art Museum, and so he brought these beauties home to me a couple nights ago from a wedding that took place there :)

The print below I found at a thrift store a couple weeks ago. I'm obsessed with it.
Do you see a butterfly or two birds?

The farmer's market that I mentioned earlier is in charming, downtown Worthington. I definitely hope to go back there more often! Near the market, there is such a cool place called the Igloo Letterpress where I picked up the postcards below.

Remember this chair

Look at her now! Ashleigh and I sanded away all of the bugs, re-stained and reupholstered, so now it looks brand new! I picked up the chair for $5 and found this fabric at a thrift store for maybe two or three bucks!

I've also been meaning to ask advice about this piece!
I found this coatrack about a year ago and have been meaning to repaint it! Finally I decided on a bright orange color! After sanding and priming the base, Ashleigh and I finally got started....and 4 coats later it was done! Well almost, I think it could actually use one more coat! Since it took, so long I put it back together and back in its place. What do you guys think? Should I paint the rest of it orange or possible just a few more sections?

Decided to throw in one more photo of the millions of flowers in my room right now! Sorry our posts have been so spread out. We've been so busy this summer. Keep posted for the redesign of our blog though! Currently I'm sketching up a new logo and Ashleigh and I are off to a photo-shoot this weekend for our new header! ...We'll let you know how it goes!

Sincerely,
Sarah

Amy Butler design

Previous CCAD (where Ashleigh and I currently go to school!) student, Amy Butler has taken the design world by storm. Her patterns make for beautiful wall treatments, pillows, bags, works of art, and so much more! I had the pleasure of listening to her and her husband speak last year at a visiting artist talk on campus and have been in love with her work ever since!

I'm sorry for these tiny images, but for some reason, they aren't showing up clearly any larger! To see them better, see Amy Butler's site! Also, check out her beautiful home!

Enjoy your weekend! It will be full of packing and unpacking back to Columbus for me. Get ready to be reunited Ashleigh!!

Sincerely,
Sarah

an art show

Our house had an art show tonight! It was a lot of fun, mostly concerning the yummy food served :) I had a couple of pieces in it as well as designing the postcard for it. There are some talented artists in the house and I was glad to have been a part of it!

BOLD SHAPES

I've been seeing shapes everywhere. ..and I love it. Take a look at some inspiration I've been drawing from lately!

My roommate and I went to MOMA this weekend when I remembered how much I adored Louise Nevelson's work.

We also saw one of my all time favorite artists, Egon Schiele. Right now, there's a gorgeous German Expressionist showing going on. The shapes the colors take along with the line quality is so brilliant.

shape6

A big star in the gallery world lately is Tara Donovan. You may have heard of her work before. She takes a lot of everyday objects and turns them into works of art. This one, with mylar. (aka what your chip bag is made from!)

shape7

I just found this today off of honestlywtf. Thanks for posting artist, Camila do Rosário's work! Reminds me a little of a project I did last year for a drawing class!

shape5

I can't stop admiring, this illustration done by ray morimura found on ffffound!

Found a new favorite blog, dos family. I really would love to paint a room like this someday.

I came across artist, Rachel Castle a while ago, but I can't stop looking at her work. It's so simple and quirky.

Lastly, the only reason why I know about this designer is because when I attended an Eleni's event with the design studio I work for (we design for Eleni!) Gossip Girl star, Kelly Rutherford was there launching her new cookies and handbags while wearing an adorable dress such as this one by Lisa Perry.

a design

A friend from the house is writing a book compiled of short stories and poems and asked me to design the cover!

We took a short trip to mood, the fabric store featured on Project Runway, to shoot some photos of fabric related to the theme of her book. (The back cover is my roommate's scarf!)

Maybe you'll see this in a local bookstore near you someday :) ...maybe!

And since we're on the topic, you should pick up a copy of Life of Pi. I can't put it down right now and I'm sure you'd be addicted to it too!

ALSO look at these beautifully stitched covers...so incredible.

Sincerely,
Sarah

20 X 200

Affordable Art? Is that real? If you don't have money spilling out of your pockets and you respect and want to see good looking art hanging on your walls...THIS COULD BE FOR YOU. I mean your childhood crayon drawings are free and one of the most beautiful things your mother has ever seen, but that's not what I'm talkin' out.

At an art fair a couple weeks ago called Pulse I passed a booth handing out free tote bags full of mysterious goodies, so obviously I picked one up and they happened to be from this company called 20 X 200.

I was so happy to have my family in town this weekend!

It was my brother's spring break, so they paid the Big Apple a visit!

They all really wanted to go ice skating at Rockefeller Plaza..and guess what's nearby?

All of these are made up of dyed wine corks! Can you imagine how long that would take?

...and across the street is J. Crew. I love the lines that the coffee mugs make!

Such amazing craftsmanship. Hope this inspired!

Sarah
