I May Have Lost It // A Vanity Makeover

Hello everyone!

I come to you ready to share two stories. One about wonderful kindness and another about my brush with insanity.

KINDNESS:

My Grandma called one day last summer with the news that her neighbor had some furniture sitting out in the driveway that she wanted to get rid of. So I drove over and had a look. The woman was so nice. Apparently she had called Habitat for Humanity ReStore and they wouldn't take any of it. She felt horrible throwing it away but had no idea what to do with it so she was really happy to know I'd be doing something with some of the pieces. I wish I could have cleaned the place out for her but I have limited storage. I ended up walking away with this vanity, a dresser and a couple little things. And I'm telling you, this stuff was a lot nicer than a lot of the stuff they sell at ReStore.

Here's the before:

Quick, grab the camera. I almost forgot to take a 'before' picture!
It was a little rough, but had good bones. I sanded it down and painted it white. I didn't distress it. I wasn't in love. But it was a major improvement and I took it down to school with me and it has served me well all year.

BONUS MAKEOVER: My grandparents were remodeling their bathroom and gave me the mirror. I'm super sentimental and this was the mirror I brushed my teeth at every weekend for my entire childhood when I stayed at their house. So I was very happy to have it. A few coats of spray paint and it was ready to go.

Here it was in my room as of a couple days ago. Liam enjoys doing his make up at the vanity.

I know it doesn't look bad. But I wasn't in love. And these pictures make it look better than it did. This next picture shows some of the imperfections.

BRUSH WITH INSANITY: At 10 PM on a night where I still had hours of homework ahead of me I decided I couldn't stand the mediocrity any longer. I scrounged up some used sand paper and went to town.

But I'm so glad I did! I'm so much happier with it now. I know the next time my boyfriend comes he probably won't even notice. But I notice it!

It's not a huge impact, but it makes more sense to me.

I'm also obsessed with lipstick. And the pretty tubes it comes in. I also love my little sundae dishes I picked up on separate occasions at various Goodwills.

So what do you think? Am I crazy?

Sincerely,
Ashleigh

  1. No, I don't think you're crazy, probably because I am too, so it's all noraml to me ;-) I love the mirror. I picked up a large one at a garage sale this week. It's gold, and normally I don't like gold, but it's like one you see in up market styled homes. I'm torn as to whether I'll spray it silver, spray it a colour like you've done, or leave it gold. I guess I'll decide when the room is finished. You have lovely pieces fo furniture and I love what you do with them.

  38. Hi there this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs
use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I'm starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

  39. You actually make it appear really easy along with your presentation
but I find this topic to be really something that I think I
might never understand. It sort of feels too complicated and extremely huge for me.
I'm looking forward to your subsequent post, I'll attempt to get the hold of it!

  40. With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement?
My website has a lot of completely unique content I've either authored myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my agreement. Do you know any techniques to help protect against content from being stolen? I'd
    genuinely appreciate it.
